Black Friday 2024: Blu-ray & 4K Deals - Get Ready to Score Some Awesome Movies!

Hey movie lovers! Black Friday's almost here again, and you know what that means – insane deals on everything, including Blu-rays and 4K Ultra HD discs! I'm already getting hyped, and I wanted to share some tips based on my past Black Friday blunders (yes, plural!) and triumphs. Let’s dive in!

I ended up with a sad, lonely DVD of The Room. Don't be like me!

Smart Shopping Strategies for Black Friday 2024

1. Make a List (and Check It Twice!)

Seriously, this is crucial. Don't just wing it. Write down EVERYTHING you want. Specific titles, formats (Blu-ray, 4K, Steelbook – yes, those fancy metal cases are a thing!), and even the retailer you prefer. I learned this the hard way. This year, my list includes that dang Lord of the Rings set, Dune, and maybe, just maybe, a few Criterion releases. I’m already checking Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart's websites.

2. Set a Budget (and Stick To It!)

This is the one I usually mess up. Those deals look so good! But I always end up regretting impulse buys. Set a hard limit before you even start your shopping spree. This year I’m capping my Black Friday movie budget at $200. That means I need to prioritize my list.

3. Scout Ahead: Pre-Black Friday Deals

Many retailers start their Black Friday sales early. Don't wait until the big day! Check websites throughout October and November. You might get lucky and snag a great deal before the rush begins. Keep an eye on those early bird deals!

4. Know Your Retailers

Some retailers specialize in certain items. Best Buy is often good for electronics and 4K releases. Target and Walmart typically have a wide variety, often with competitive pricing. Amazon is king for convenience and deals, but be aware of shipping times.

5. Check for Bundles and Deals

Watch for "buy-one-get-one" deals, especially on lesser-known titles. Stores sometimes offer bundles that save you money compared to buying individual movies.

6. Utilize Price-Tracking Tools

Tools like Google Shopping, CamelCamelCamel, and Keepa can track price changes on Amazon. This helps to see if the Black Friday deal is actually that good.

7. Don't Forget the Digital!

Don't limit yourself to physical media. Many digital movie retailers (like iTunes, Google Play Movies, etc.) offer Black Friday discounts on movies too!

Beyond the Deals: Choosing Your Format

Blu-ray vs. 4K UHD: 4K offers higher resolution, but you'll need a 4K TV and player to experience it. If your setup's not 4K-ready, Blu-ray is still a fantastic format for picture and sound quality. Don't forget about the differences in features offered; some discs have bonus content not included on all formats.
