Are they prioritizing the right attributes? Are they truly assessing potential or are they being swayed by hype?

It's not all doom and gloom, though. BVB still has a strong squad. But this whole situation with their former defenders serves as a stark reminder of the challenges of youth development in professional football. It's a complex issue with no easy answers.

This whole thing's a lesson for all of us, even us armchair managers! We need to be more realistic about expectations, understand that not every young talent will become a superstar. And, of course, we need to be patient – building a strong team takes time. And a whole lot of luck.
