Jacob Collier: Caluire, Radiant – A Night to Remember (and How I Almost Missed It!)
Okay, so let's talk about Jacob Collier's Radiant concert in Caluire. Seriously, amazing doesn't even begin to cover it. But let me back up a sec... I almost missed the whole thing! Total first-world problem, I know, but hear me out.
The Pre-Concert Panic: A Total Train Wreck (Almost)
I’d planned this for months – snagged tickets the second they went on sale. Jacob Collier is, like, my musical hero. His harmonies, his arrangements...it’s next level stuff. I’d listened to Djesse Vol. 1, Djesse Vol. 2, Djesse Vol. 3, and even that crazy Christmas in the Air album a million times. You know, the one with the super high-pitched notes that only dogs can probably hear? Anyway...
The day of the concert, I'm totally relaxed, right? Wrong. I get totally sidetracked with work (freelancing is a beast, am I right?), and completely forgot to check the Caluire concert venue's location and how to get there! I almost missed the entire show because I was busy stressing over a deadline. Yeah, I know, major fail. I almost had a total meltdown. Seriously, I felt like such a noob.
Luckily, my partner – bless her heart – snapped me out of it. She's way better at logistics than me. We finally got sorted, grabbed a quick bite (some amazing Lyon street food, I must say!), and made it just as the opening act finished. Phew! Almost didn't happen!
The Concert: A Sensory Overload of Joy
The energy in the venue was electric. You could feel the anticipation in the air. It wasn't just a concert; it was an experience. And Caluire? Perfect intimate venue. Not too big, not too small; just right.
Jacob Collier's stage presence is something else. He's so humble and yet so incredibly talented. He effortlessly blends genres—jazz, R&B, classical, pop, you name it. The arrangements were mind-blowing. Every musician was phenomenal; their skill was obvious. I mean, even a casual listener could tell. The whole thing was magical, truly unforgettable. I even saw some other fans singing along to his latest songs! Even the lighting was incredible, perfectly complementing the mood. This shows how he really mastered the ambiance!
He played songs from all his albums, including some deep cuts that I didn't expect. Hearing "Hideaway" live was insane. My absolute favorite. He interacted with the audience, telling stories between songs. It felt very personal.
And the harmonies? Oh my god, the harmonies. They were so rich and complex, it was like hearing a choir of angels. Seriously, you had to be there to experience it. I'm still buzzing from it days later. The quality of the sound system contributed a lot to this incredible experience.
