Stalker 2 Benchmarks: Day-0 Patch - My Rig & My Totally Unbiased Results!
Hey gamers! So, Stalker 2 finally dropped, right? I was so hyped. Pre-ordered it months ago, built my PC specifically for this game (don't judge, it's a thing), and then… the day-zero patch hit. Talk about a rollercoaster! I'm gonna share my benchmark results and some thoughts – because let's be honest, who doesn't love a good benchmark? And maybe, just maybe, save you some heartache along the way.
My Rig: The Beast (or is it?)
First off, let's talk specs. I'm running a pretty decent setup:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X – This thing's a beast, right? I mean, it should be.
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 – Yeah, I splurged. Worth it, though? We'll see.
- RAM: 32GB DDR5 – Plenty of juice for even the most demanding games, I thought.
- Storage: 2TB NVMe SSD – Fast loading times are important to me. I hate waiting.
- Resolution: 1440p – My sweet spot. I tried 4K and while it looked pretty, it was a resource hog.
I'm pretty sure I did a good job choosing each component. I mean, I spent hours looking at online reviews and YouTube videos. I even bought a book about choosing the right computer parts! However, I’m still learning.
The Day-Zero Patch – What a Difference a Day Makes!
The initial benchmarks I ran before the Day-0 patch were…well, let's just say rough. The game was stuttering like crazy, even on low settings! I thought my brand new rig was a lemon. I almost had a meltdown! The frame rates were abysmal. I’m talking single digits in some areas! I was about to rage-quit before I even properly started playing.
Then, the day-zero patch dropped. A huge download, mind you. I swear I watched the progress bar for what felt like an eternity. But let me tell you, the difference was night and day. Seriously. Night and day. It's like they replaced the entire engine. They fixed the stuttering. They also fixed the lighting engine, something the developers mentioned during the beta.
Benchmark Results (Finally!)
After the patch, I ran the benchmarks again, focusing on the opening areas of the game. I used the in-game benchmark tool, of course, running multiple tests to get some decent average readings, because you can’t trust one single test.
- High Settings: Average 75 FPS. Not bad, considering! There were some dips to 60ish FPS in more graphically demanding areas. This is where the 4080 truly shines.
- Ultra Settings: Average 55-60 FPS. Still very playable, even for a demanding title. I noticed heavier drops here, down to 40 FPS in heavy particle effects and such.
- Ray Tracing (High/Ultra): Enabling ray tracing tanked the performance. Even on high settings, I was barely scraping 40 FPS on average. So Ray Tracing on Ultra Settings is a no-go for me.
Tips and Tricks from a (Slightly) Experienced Gamer
Here's the thing. Benchmarking isn't just about number crunching. Here are a few things I learned the hard way:
- Driver Updates are Key: Make sure you have the latest drivers for your GPU. Seriously, it makes a difference!
- Close Background Apps: Don't run a million apps at once. Your system needs resources to run the game smoothly.
- Tweak Settings: Don't be afraid to mess around with the in-game graphics settings. I found that turning down certain settings (like shadows) had a less noticeable impact on the overall visual quality but helped a ton in terms of frame rate.
Remember: these benchmarks are specific to my system. Your results will likely vary depending on your hardware. Don't be discouraged if you don't hit the same numbers. The important thing is to have fun exploring the Zone!
