TU Wien: Orange the World Kampagne – Meine Erfahrungen und Tipps
Hey Leute! Let's talk about the TU Wien's participation in the Orange the World campaign. I've been involved in a few university awareness campaigns, and this one…well, it was a rollercoaster. Honestly, I kinda stumbled into it. I wasn't even that aware of the campaign initially, which, looking back, is kinda embarrassing. But hey, we all make mistakes, right?
Was ist die Orange the World Kampagne überhaupt?
For those who are like I was – a bit clueless – Orange the World is a UN campaign to end violence against women. It's huge, global, and super important. The whole point is to raise awareness and push for change. Think of it as a massive spotlight shining on a really serious issue. The orange color symbolizes a brighter future, free from violence. You know, hope and all that jazz. It happens every year around November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
At TU Wien, they went all out. There were posters everywhere, lectures, workshops…the works. It was intense! I even saw some students wearing orange ribbons. I thought "Wow, that's cool!" Seriously, it felt like the entire campus was buzzing with activity.
Meine Rolle in der Kampagne
My involvement was… accidental. A friend dragged me to a workshop on bystander intervention. I wasn't thrilled at first, to be honest. I thought, "Another lecture? Ugh." But I'm glad I went. The workshop was actually really good. We learned practical skills on how to safely intervene in potentially dangerous situations – stuff I never even thought about before. They even covered situations specific to university life. Things like recognizing signs of unhealthy relationships or knowing how to support someone who's been assaulted. Seriously, game changer.
Was ich gelernt habe (und was ihr auch lernen solltet!)
One thing I really took away was the importance of active listening. It sounds simple, but truly hearing someone and validating their feelings is crucial. Often, people just want to be heard, not necessarily fixed.
Also, don't underestimate the power of small actions. Even something as small as offering support, reporting something you see, or simply sharing information about the campaign can have a huge impact. Sharing social media posts, for example. That stuff does make a difference!
Finally, educate yourself. Learn about the different forms of gender-based violence and the resources available to victims. There are tons of resources available online, and I swear, having the knowledge will help you feel more confident in stepping up.
Fazit: Orange the World bei der TU Wien
Overall, my experience with the Orange the World campaign at TU Wien was positive, even if it started with a bit of unintentional participation. The campaign really highlighted how crucial it is to address violence against women and create a safer environment. If you're a student, definitely look for ways to get involved in future campaigns. And if you're not affiliated with TU Wien, find a similar campaign in your community! You never know how much of a difference you can make. Plus, meeting new people is an added bonus. You know, you might even make new friends while supporting a really worthy cause.
Don't be a bystander – be an upstander! And remember, even small actions make a difference. Let's work together to make the world a safer and more equal place. Peace out!
